Beginning this fall, The Washington Post is launching a twice-weekly Spanish-language podcast and digital opinions section with notable international hosts, editors and contributors to provide news and analysis for Spanish speakers in the U.S. and around the world.
The podcast will be hosted by Juan Carlos Iragorri, an Emmy award-winner Colombian journalist and author with more than 30 years of experience in print, radio and television, internationally renowned journalists Dori Toribio, Washington correspondent for Spain’s Mediaset, and Jorge Espinosa, radio journalist and podcast director of Colombia’s Caracol Radio. The podcast examines contributions from Post reporters while bringing top news stories through a fresh, multicultural lens, allowing listeners to experience the intersection of Washington and the Spanish-speaking world.
“This new podcast further opens up Post reporting and analysis to Spanish speakers in the United States, Latin America, Spain and elsewhere,” said Martin Baron, executive editor of The Washington Post. “Over the past year, we’ve made a significant investment in audio storytelling. We’re delighted to now expand our audio offerings to additional listeners who are seeking to understand global events and trends that are influencing their lives.”
The Opinions initiative will be a digital section under Opinions offering original columns in Spanish and translations as part of its Global Opinions offering timely commentary on news of interest to Spanish-speaking readers globally. Mael Vallejo, a Mexican journalist who has been a senior editor at Esquire Latin America, Animal Político and El Universal, and María Jesús Zevallos, a Peruvian journalist who most recently worked as editorial and content manager at Vice en Español, will serve as editors based in Mexico City, commissioning writers who will provide incisive commentary and analysis from Latin America, Spain and the U.S.
“Building on our mission to give readers a well-rounded debate on the most pressing issues in every region in the world, this new Opinions section will be a source for Spanish-speakers seeking a range of perspectives on social and political issues throughout the Americas,” said Fred Hiatt, editorial page editor at The Post.
Both the podcast and the Opinions page will be available on washingtonpost.com.
