Stockton University To Not Require SAT Scores For Applicants

GALLOWAY, N.J. (AP) — Stockton University will no longer require undergraduate applicants to submit ACT or SAT scores.

The Press of Atlantic City reports the university will phase in a test-optional policy beginning in fall 2019. Administrators say the decision is based on recommendations by the Faculty Senate task force and research by the school.

Accepted students will have to submit standardized test scores or take a subject-specific exam to determine placement for writing and math courses. Standardized test scores will be required for some majors and scholarships.

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Lori Vermeulen says the change will make the application review process more inclusive and supportive.

Officials say the school will continue to evaluate student transcripts, letters of recommendation and other submissions.
