QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) — Some security officers at the State University of New York's Adirondack campus could be carrying guns during the spring semester.

The Post-Star in Glens Falls reports that school officials are drawing up rules for the purchase, training and use of Tasers and handguns by campus officers.

The school's director of facilities, Anthony Palangi, notes that many of the campus officers are retired police who already have weapons experience.

Palangi says having the proper "tools" will make the officers better prepared to respond. But he hopes they never have to.

School President Kristine Duffy says she doesn't think arming officers will change the tone of the campus.
