In Oregon, A Community Responds To Imprisonment Of Migrants

Approximately 1,600 immigrants who have been apprehended along the U.S.-Mexico border, were then transferred to federal prisons in five states after President Trump's "zero tolerance" policy left the usual facilities short on space. An ad hoc group of volunteers, including retirees, recent college graduates, lawyers and clergy, are helping migrants being detained in Oregon.

Sickness, Fear, Harassment In Mexico Whittle Away At Caravan

Fear, sickness and police harassment are chipping away at the migrant caravan, which resumed its journey today towards the U.S.-Mexico border. The group of 4,000 to 5,000 migrants includes children and toddlers in strollers. The trek ahead of them is more than 1,000 miles before they reach the border.

Murray State Offers Tuition Discounts For Military Students

Murray State University is offering tuition discounts for military students who are pursuing either an undergraduate degree or a graduate degree. The university is providing free textbooks, waving course fees and matching remaining tuition costs that are not covered by the U.S. Department of Defense Military Tuition Assistance Program.

Rutgers U To Serve As NJ’s Center On Gun Violence Research

Rutgers University will serve as New Jersey’s Center on Gun Violence Research. The new initiative focuses on the university’s expertise in public health, criminal justice and other fields that deal with the nationwide problem. New Jersey will now have their own research center that will fill in the knowledge gap between the federal government’s inaction and the obstruction from the gun industry.

ACLU Sues Dodge City Over Voting Access For Hispanics

The ACLU is suing Dodge City in Kansas for moving the only polling site in the city to outside the city limits. According to the lawsuit, this will make it more difficult for the majority of the city’s Hispanic population to vote because of issues with work schedule flexibility and access to transportation.

Parent-Led Group Hopes To Help Hungry Kids In Minnesota

Feeding Area Children Together, a parent-led group, has distributed more than 23,000 meal packs to St. Cloud-area children in a little more than a year. This is roughly the equivalent of the combined student populations of St. Cloud Community & Technical College, St. Cloud State University, St. John's University and the College of St. Benedict.

US Adds Robust 250,000 Jobs

U.S. employers have added 250,000 jobs during the month of October, according to a recent economic report. U.S. employers have also raised average pay by the most in almost a decade, and the unemployment rate remains at 3.7 percent, a five-decade low.
