Rider University Alumna’s estate has pledged more than $400,000 to the university. The estate of Doris Hoagland ‘42 is donating $405,980 to support university initiatives. Hoagland earned a diploma in secretarial science. Attending Rider gave her the life she always dreamed of.

West Virginia University Bans 5 Fraternities From Campus

The following fraternities have been banned from West Virginia University (WVU) for at least 10 years: Alpha Sigma Phi, Kappa Alpha Order, Phi Sigma Kappa, Sigma Chi and Theta Chi. These five fraternities wrote letters to become independent of WVU back in August. The fraternities were upset by regulations that were prompted by a university report.

Job News: Oklahoma Emergency Teacher Certificates Surpass 2,500

The Oklahoma Board of Education has approved more than 400 certificates to school districts that have vacancies but lack qualified candidates. In addition, the board had already approved more than 2,500 certificates since June, which is a increase from the 590 certificates that were issues over the previous year.

Musk $480K Donation To Pay For Flint Schools Water Filtration Systems

The Musk Foundation is donating $480,000 to allow schools in Flint, Michigan, to install ultraviolet water filtration systems to their drinking fountains. These new systems are expected to be installed at all 12 of the schools, as well as the district’s administration building by the end of January.

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $4.9 million grant for the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) to develop a free open textbooks program for select subjects. Funded by the Congress FY 2018 omnibus spending bill, UC Davis will lead collaboration among 12 campuses.
