A report of a gunman at a Northwestern University residence hall and shots fired was a hoax, a suburban Chicago police official said Wednesday. Evanston Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew said a call to police reporting shots fired was a "swatting" hoax. The term describes when someone calls in a false report in the hopes of prompting a SWAT team to respond.

Facebook users to learn if they were part of privacy scandal [Beyond Education]

Get ready to find out if your Facebook data has been swept up in the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Starting Monday, the 87 million users who might have had their data shared with Cambridge Analytica will get a detailed message on their news feeds. Facebook says most of the affected users (more than 70 million) are in the U.S., though there are over a million each in the Philippines, Indonesia and the U.K.

A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration must resume a program that has shielded hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation but gave it 90 days to restate its arguments before his order takes effect. The ruling by U.S. District Judge John D. Bates in Washington, if it survives the 90-day reprieve, would be a new setback for the administration.

Officials at a central New York college have confirmed that norovirus sickened over 50 students. Hamilton College in Clinton said Wednesday that testing confirmed norovirus. The highly contagious bug causes diarrhea, nausea, muscle pain, vomiting and other symptoms. Health officials say norovirus can be transmitted through human contact and contaminated surfaces.
