Unity College in Maine is hosting the Environmental Career Fair on its campus on March 6. There will be more than 100 companies and organizations at the event including conservation groups, private sector companies and public agencies that work in fields such as law enforcement and wildlife and habitat protection.

Seton Hall University and Hackensack Meridian Health Sign Agreement to Lease Former Roche Site for New School of Medicine

Seton Hall University and Hackensack Meridian Health announced today that the two organizations have signed an agreement for a long-term lease with the real estate development firm Prism Capital Partners to lease 16 acres including two state-of-the-art buildings on the former Hoffmann-La Roche biomedical campus located in Nutley and Clifton, New Jersey, to serve as the home for their new health and medical sciences campus.

17 Universities Oppose Anti-smoking Group with Tobacco Ties

Seventeen public health schools in the U.S. and Canada pledged Thursday to refuse research money from a new anti-smoking group funded by the tobacco industry. The Foundation for a Smoke-Free World was created in September with nearly $1 billion from the Philip Morris tobacco company, saying it aims to end smoking worldwide and support research to meet that goal.

'Public Safety Situation' at University of Minnesota Hotel [Breaking Education News]

Police at the University of Minnesota have evacuated some guests from a campus hotel, saying they're negotiating a "situation" with a person in one of the hotel's rooms. The school issued an alert early Monday about a "public safety situation" at the Graduate Minneapolis Hotel. The school said some roads around the campus were closed, as was a campus recreation and wellness center.

University of Arkansas Endowment Increases to $996 Million [Education News]

An annual survey indicates that the endowment at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville has increased to more than 996 million and ranks 101st among U.S. and Canadian institutions. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that the value of UA's endowment increased on June 30 was up 10.8 percent compared with the $899 million market value a year earlier.

American Geophysical Union honors Virginia Tech's Esteban Gazel with 2016 Hisashi Kuno Award

The Kuno Award was announced in conjunction with several other honors by the American Geophysical Union. The Kuno award is based on the excellence in research arising from work performed up to seven years past recipient’s earning of his or her doctoral degree. The award is named in honor of Hisashi Kuno, a mid-20th century volcanologist, petrologist and field geologist who revolutionized volcanology.

Marshall Designated Purple Heart University [Education News]

Marshall University has been designated a Purple Heart University by the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Marshall said in a news release that it's the first university in West Virginia to be given the designation, which is meant to recognize the school's service to Purple Heart veterans in the areas.
