Reunited Immigrant Children Scooped Up Into Parents' Arms [Beyond Education]

Lugging little backpacks, smiling immigrant children were scooped up into their parents' arms Tuesday as the Trump administration scrambled to meet a court-ordered deadline to reunite dozens of youngsters forcibly separated from their families at the border. The Justice Department said more than 50 children under age 5 could be back in the arms of their parents by the deadline at the end of the day.

University Of South Carolina Raises Tuition Nearly 3 Percent [Education News]

The University of South Carolina is raising undergraduate tuition costs for the coming year nearly 3 percent. The school's board of trustees approved the increase Wednesday. The school said in a news release that in addition to the 2.9 percent tuition increase, there will also be a 3.5 percent increase in food service and about a 4 percent increase in housing costs, depending on the dorm.

Tuition To Increase For In-State Students At 14 Pennsylvania Universities [Education News]

Tuition for in-state students at Pennsylvania's 14 state-owned universities will rise by 3 percent. The Board of Governors of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education on Thursday voted to approve the $224 increase for the 2018-19 school year. The system says tuition will rise from $7,492 to $7,716 for most full-time Pennsylvania residents, who account for nearly 90 percent of the system's students.

Boston Marathon participants who ran on behalf of more than 260 non-profit organizations raised a total of $36.6 million for charity in the 122nd year of the historic race. The fundraising total represents a 7 percent increase, or $2.4 million, over 2017's results.

A third set of 100 New York college students and construction workers is headed to Puerto Rico to help rebuilding after Hurricane Maria's heavy blow to the island last year. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the volunteer deployment Sunday. It's the third since the start of June.
