Tuition-Free Community College For Low-Income Students In New Jersey [Education News]

Financing August 2018

New Jersey will start offering tuition-free community college for low-income students at select colleges in January.

The Community College Innovation Challenge is Governor Phil Murphy’s first step toward the free community college program announced when he was campaigning.

In order to seek qualification a community college must submit an application to the state.

When approval is obtained the college can offer free tuition and fees to students from families with less than $45,000 in adjusted gross income. Students must take at least two classes, which is usually two classes.

Students do not have to apply for the tuition-free program they will be automatically enrolled if they met all the qualifications provided that their college takes part in the program.

Bergen Community College is among the 19 public community colleges that can be eligible to join the Community College Innovation Challenge.
