UMass-Boston extends tobacco ban across all campus property
BOSTON (AP) — The University of Massachusetts-Boston says it's banning the use of all tobacco products on campus.
Tobacco use is already banned inside buildings on the campus.
A new policy that takes effect Tuesday extends the ban to all outdoor spaces, including the school's bayside property.
The policy bans e-cigarettes and vaporizers in addition to traditional cigarettes.
The school cites the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a news release, saying that tobacco-free policies improve air quality and health. New signs will be installed on campus to indicate that tobacco is no longer allowed.
A committee that included faculty, staff and students drafted the new policy.
The school joins dozens of others in the U.S. that have banned tobacco or smoking on campus.
