US DOE Awards Nearly $3M To Students In Carolinas

Grant To Help During Hurricane Florence Recovery

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded nearly $3 million in supplemental funding for financially strapped students in North and South Carolina that were affected by Hurricane Florence.

Almost $2 million in relief is for North Carolina students while more than $800,000 is to aid South Carolina students. The Department is doing everything in their power to continue to support students, faculty and institutions in the Carolinas recovering from the disaster.

The awards are being provided from the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) program. The program gives unused supplemental funds from all schools in FSEOG. This year, they have chosen 38 institutions from across North and South Carolina that are designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for assistance because of damage caused by Hurricane Florence.

Award aid is distributed to Pell grant students first and then administered to the remainder of low-income students.
