Revered in Andean cosmology and central to many pre-Columbian myths, the lake spans over 8,300 square kilometers and holds not only ecological richness but also remarkable cultural heritage. Near the Peruvian city of Puno, a unique community continues to float—literally—on its waters. These are the Uros, an Indigenous people whose homes is not on land but on human-made islands built entirely of reeds. According to the BBC, approximately 1,300 Uros people live on around 80 man-made floating islands in Lake Titicaca today.
St. Francis College is pleased to announce Dr. Miguel Martinez-Saenz as the 19th President in the College’s 160 year history.
In his first stint as president, Jose Fierro will be leading Cerritos College, a community college located in Norwalk, California near Long Beach, California. Fierro was named president this year. Previously Fierro served as chief academic officer at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming and was academic dean at Florida State University. Hence, he knows what issues community college students face and is tuned into what Latino undergraduates encounter in pursuit of higher education.
