Still angry about the budget deal he signed last week, President Donald Trump has floated the idea of using the Pentagon budget to pay for his long-promised border wall with Mexico, despite the fact that such spending would likely require approval from Congress. Trump raised the funding plan with House Speaker Paul Ryan at a meeting at the White House last Wednesday.

Puerto Rico was hit by Hurricane Maria exactly six months ago, and the U.S. territory is still struggling to recover from the strongest storm to hit the island in nearly a century. Crews already have restored water to 99 percent of clients and power to 93 percent of customers, but more than 100,000 of them still remain in the dark and there are frequent power outages.

Virtually every college offers summer programs dedicated to help prepare incoming students succeed in college.  Many have been at it for decades, and their programs have proven to be successful for thousands.

Avoiding Academic Decay Through Well-Planned Summers by <b> Miquela Rivera </b>

The best summer vacations start in the winter – if you want a meaningful three-month break for Latino students once the school year ends.  Too many idle hours of summer vacation can result in academic decay – a loss of knowledge by students due to nonuse.  It’s intellectual atrophy – knowledge once acquired not actively used since becomes less meaningful or accessible. Too much unstructured time can also result in behavior problems like loss of motivation and self-control.  And for teens needing a summer job, winter is the time to start looking.

The White House said Wednesday it does not favor an immigration agreement with Congress that would involve extending protections for young immigrants for three years in exchange for three years of border wall funding. Deputy press secretary Raj Shah said the administration continues to negotiate an immigration overhaul that would address the DACA program while also stopping illegal immigration and modernizing the legal immigration system.

Hundreds of people participated in scattered rallies on both sides of the border dividing San Diego from Tijuana, Mexico.

Rallies for and against Donald Trump's "big beautiful border wall" with Mexico are expected to mark his first visit to California as president amid growing tensions between his administration and the state over immigration enforcement. Trump will visit eight towering prototypes of his planned wall Tuesday before addressing Marines in San Diego and attending a fund-raiser in Los Angeles.
