HACU Celebrates Unique Champions

The two individuals selected for this year’s Hall of Champions are the late Dr. Sister Elizabeth Anne Sueltenfuss, former president of Our Lady of the Lake University, and Dr. J. Michael Ortiz, president emeritus of California State Polytechnic University at Pomona (Cal State Pomona).

Scholarship Recipient Looks to Help Community

Written by Allison Pries, NJ.com ORANGE, N.J. (AP) — The $22,650 she won will take Jenny Rodriguez far from her New Jersey home. But the high school senior says she doesn’t see the hefty scholarship -- which she won from a pool of more than 15,000 applicants nationwide -- as a ticket out. Instead, it’s chance for her to do more good for her hometown of Orange, she says.

West Virginia State University Student Receives National Leadership Award

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- West Virginia State University (WVSU) senior Edgar Lopez-Torres was one of 15 undergraduate students in the world to receive the 2018 Student Leadership Award from the American Chemical Society (ACS). The program recognizes emerging leaders in the ACS student chapter network and helps them prepare for leadership opportunities at volunteer organizations and in their professional career.

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrating Today’s America <b> by Sylvia Mendoza </b>

The first Latina astronaut was Ellen Ochoa, a Stanford graduate and inventor for NASA.  Joaquin and Julian Castro, brothers from San Antonio, served as U.S. Representative and U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, respectively. Sonia Sotomayor is the first Latina Supreme Court Justice.  Gloria and Emilio Estefan from the famed Miami Sound Machine have sold 100 million records and now own their own recording studio. She received the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contributions to American music.
