At least one gunman opened fire at a Houston-area high school Friday, killing eight to 10 people, most of them students, authorities said. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said he could not be precise about the number of deaths at Santa Fe High School, which went on lockdown around 8 a.m. Two suspects believed to be students were in custody.

The University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre & Dance is planning a new $19 million dance school building that would include a 100-seat performance venue. The Ann Arbor News reports plans for the building on the school's North Campus in Ann Arbor were approved Thursday by the school's Board of Regents at a meeting in Dearborn.

Chile's Bishops Resign En Masse Over Sex Abuse Cover-Up [Beyond Education]

In the biggest shake-up yet in the Catholic Church's long-running sex abuse scandal, every active Chilean bishop offered to resign Friday over what Pope Francis said was their "grave negligence" in investigating abuse and protecting children. The bishops announced at the end of an emergency Vatican summit that all 31 active bishops in Rome had signed a document offering to resign.

School Bus Torn Apart In Dump Truck Collision, Killing 2 [Education News]

A school bus taking children on a field trip to a historic site collided with a dump truck on Thursday, ripping the bus apart and killing a student and a teacher. The crash left the bus lying on its side on the guardrail of Interstate 80 in Mount Olive, its undercarriage and front end sheared off and its steering wheel exposed.
