With a close look at Cubas unique natural history, including its native species, highly diverse ecosystems, and geology, ¡Cuba! also explores Cubas history, traditions, and contemporary Cuban voices to inspire novel perspectives on this dynamic country. ¡Cuba! opens for a weekend of Member previews on Friday, November 18, and will be on view from Monday, November 21, 2016, to August 13, 2017.
Financing November 2016 UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarship Program™ Announces 2016 Recipients UCB, Inc. announced 40 recipients of the 2016 UCB Family Epilepsy Scholarship, recognizing outstanding individuals affected by epilepsy who are pursuing higher education as part of their effort to achieve their dreams and goals. Epilepsy is a chronic neurological condition affecting approximately three million people in the U.S. and 40 million people worldwide. Over the past 12 years, UCB has awarded nearly 400 hundred scholarships totaling $1.9 million to people whose lives have been directly affected by epilepsy. This includes not only those living with epilepsy, but also their family members and others involved in their care, who are critically important partners in successfully managing epilepsy.
Global November 2016 CU Boulder remains top in state for sending, receiving students internationally The University of Colorado Boulder enrolled more international students during the 2015-16 academic year and sent more students abroad during the 2014-15 academic year than any other higher education institution in Colorado. The data, released today by the Institute of International Education in its annual Open Doors Report, show that CU Boulder was home to 2,951 international students during the 2015-16 school year, up from 2,614 in 2014-15. In addition, CU Boulder sent 1,592 students overseas during the 2014-15 school year, up from 1,541 in 2013-14. Year over year, the total number of U.S. study abroad students enrolled in Colorado was nearly flat with 5,355 in the 2013-14 academic year and 5,350 in 2014-15.
Health Care November 2016 Mumps Cases on the Rise at the University of Missouri The number of confirmed mumps cases at the University of Missouri is growing amid a national rise in cases. The university plans to provide an update each Wednesday. As of Nov. 9, the university had recorded 17 cases since the beginning of the fall semester. The school says all the students received the required two doses of a vaccine that protects against mumps, as well as measles and rubella.
Arts and Media November 2016 First Ever Murder Mystery at Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University For the first time, Liberty Hall at Kean University will host a Murder Mystery at the Museum in the 244-year-old historic mansion of New Jersey’s first elected Governor, William Livingston. Guests will be transported to 1932 when they arrive at the beautifully decorated Liberty Hall for a dinner party. However, murder is on the menu, and it is up to the dinner guests to solve this whodunit.
Financing November 2016 UMass-Amherst Capital Campaign Surpasses Goal, Raises $379M The University of Massachusetts Amherst has raised $379 million in the largest capital campaign in state public higher education history, easily surpassing the $300 million goal. The state's flagship campus announced Monday that more than 103,000 donors contributed to the UMass Rising Campaign, which brought in the five largest gifts in university history. The campaign launched in 2010 officially closed June 30, a year ahead of schedule. About $108 million was raised for the university's permanent endowment and another $164 million was raised for academic and research programs, $67 million more than the goal. The campaign helped establish more than 24 new permanent professorships. Some of the money will be used for student scholarships and infrastructure.
