Michigan Secretary of State Office Holds College Voter Tour

The office of Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson is kicking off a tour of 18 college campuses across the state to register students to vote. The Republican says in a statement that the 3,000-mile "2016 Voter Registration Drive" by the Mobile Office offers access to services including voter registration. Officials will be on hand to answer other questions as well.

Long Island University-Brooklyn Locks Out Faculty

Administrators at Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus in New York have locked out their 400 faculty members in an unprecedented hostile move that will upend the start of classes on Wednesday. Currently, nearly half of the Brooklyn faculty are paid less than their LIU Post (Nassau County campus) counterparts, yet both campuses charge the same tuition and faculty credentials are equivalent.

Ohio College Opens Entirely Gluten-free Dining Hall

Kent State University in Ohio has opened what it says is the first entirely gluten-free dining hall in the country. The school restructured Prentice Cafe in Prentice Hall after administrators noticed a rising number of students with intolerance to gluten. The cafe was certified by the Gluten-Free Food Services Certification Program.

University Suggests Students Not Drink Water Because of Lead

Rowan University in New Jersey has disconnected water fountains and handed out bottled water in dorms after finding elevated lead levels. The school found the elevated lead levels after reports of discolored water in an administrative building in July. It then tested and found elevated levels in other buildings, including two residence halls.

Research shows Head Start pays for itself, pays off for children

Expanding Head Start is good public policy and will pay for itself, according to new research by faculty in the University of California, Berkeley’s economics department and Goldman School of Public Policy. The UC Berkeley researchers found that every dollar invested generates $2 in future earnings for children enrolled in the program.
