New Initiative Offers Daycare to CUNY Students With Children

New York City’s Child Care Initiative will help 1,461 CUNY students with kids. The City Council’s $600,000 investment is providing more than 1,500 infants and toddlers with daycare and tutoring programs. It was created to help those students juggle being both a parent and a student.

3 U of Florida Area Studies Centers Receive $5.9M

Three University of Florida area studies centers have received $5.9 million in major grants. The U.S. Department of Education Title VI Program has named UF’s African, European and Latin American studies centers Title VI Comprehensive National Resource Centers (NRC) and has awarded them Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship grants.

Cuba Gives Scholarships To Colombians, Including Ex-Rebels

Two hundred Colombians are slated to travel to Cuba in order to pursue medical degrees with the first group flying out today. The group of 200 include 22 former FARC rebels. This is all part of a scholarship program that is being financed by Cuba’s government.

US Adds A Strong 201K Jobs

There was an increase in hiring in the U.S. this past month with employers adding 201,000 jobs. The unemployment rate stayed near an 18-year low at 3.9 percent. These stats may indicate businesses and consumers will continue spending even though there are ongoing conflicts between the Trump administration and its trading partners.

Media School At IU Gets $6M

The Media School at Indiana University (IU) has received a $6 million dollar gift from an IU Bloomington alumnus. The school is planning to use the money for a center that will focus on the teaching and production of investigative journalism.
