U Of Michigan To Raise In-State Tuition By 2.9 Percent [Education News]

The University of Michigan Board of Regents has approved a 2.9 percent increase for in-state undergraduate tuition. The increase, approved 7-1 Thursday, means those students will pay $436 extra per year. Freshman tuition and fees for Michigan residents next fall will be $15,262. The regents also voted to raise tuition for nonresidents by 3.9 percent, or $1,874, to $49,326 per year.

“Jane the Virgin” is going against tradition and using their Emmy Consideration Fund to give an undocumented high school student a scholarship to go to college. As a member of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund’s Board of Directors, Golden Globe Winner and Star Gina Rodriguez partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles to find a Latinx student who fits the bill.

U of Memphis Launches Student-Run FedEx Center [Education News]

The University of Memphis has launched a FedEx IT Command Center on Campus. This is the third step of a broader collaboration between the University and FedEx. The Command Center is part of their initiative to grow the regional data analytics workforce. It will be a student-run IT Command Center open seven days a week.

Cal State LA Awarded $1M Grant To Enhance Diversity [Education News]

California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) has been awarded a $1 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) to enhance diversity and inclusion for California students in science. The grant is slated to start the Science Faculty for Inclusive Excellence and Transformation project to support students from historically underrepresented communities who are first generations and are working adults with families.

UC Berkeley Extension Announces Global Alumni Partnership [Education News]

UC Berkeley Extension has announced that select courses in the accredited Certificate Program in Human Resource Management and in the Certificate Program in Marketing will be fully taught in Spanish to address the growing number of Spanish-speaking learners. Available completely online, these select courses will be adapted from their English-language equivalents and will begin September 2018. More courses will be added in Spring 2019.

Tuition Rising At 21 Of Oklahoma's 25 Higher Education Institutions

Tuition will increase at 21 of Oklahoma's 25 higher education institutions. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education on Thursday approved tuition and fees for each of the state's colleges and universities. Only the University of Oklahoma, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Eastern Oklahoma State College and Murray State College did not seek a tuition increase.
