Missouri Southern Faces $1 Million Penalty Amid Tuition Hike [Education News]

Missouri Southern State University is facing a $1.1 million state penalty after raising its tuition rates by 15 percent next year. The university's tuition and fees are slated to increase by $900 to nearly $7,000 during the upcoming school year, the Springfield News-Leader reported. Nearly all public colleges in Missouri are expected to raise their tuition next year, but only by 1 and 2 percent.

The Idaho Business Review reports the grant to assistant professor Tara Hudiburg is part of a $115 million project involving 60 people in 17 institutions, aimed at creating a new generation of sustainable and cost-effective bioproducts.

Pennsylvania State University has received a $2.5 million grant for a transportation research program involving several other universities. The study will cover different modes of transportation, such as highways, rail and air. Its focus is "improving the durability and extending the life" of transportation infrastructure.

USC Recruiting For Study To Explore Impact Of Culture And Genetics On Hispanics With MS [Education News]

The Keck School of Medicine of USC is actively recruiting Hispanics with multiple sclerosis (MS) to participate in a study examining the impact of genetics, acculturation and cultural perceptions on disease severity. The multicenter study, which is being funded by a grant from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, is recruiting 400 Hispanics who have been diagnosed with MS within the last two years.

University Of Wyoming Approves Budget With Employee Raises [Education News]

The University of Wyoming's budget for next year includes millions of dollars to fund raises and hire additional employees. The university's board unanimously approved the nearly $500 million budget, which includes $5.5 million for raises for university employees, more than $4 million to hire at least 32 faculty members and about $450,000 to hire additional custodians.
