WPU Receives $250K For Shark Research Project

The National Science Foundation has awarded a three-year $250,000 grant to William Paterson University environmental science professors Michael Griffiths and Martin Becker. They are leaders in a multi-university collaborative research project on the Biogeochemical Fingerprinting of the Megatoothed (“Megalodon”) Shark: A Dual Study in Thermophysiological Evolution and Seawater Chemistry.

Missouri Universities Get $260M For Scholarships, Research

The four university campuses in Missouri will likely be making proposals to the University of Missouri System for a portion of the $260 million expected to be spent in the next five years for research and scholarships. The System’s president, Mun Choi, made the announcement last week.

Warner Bros’ “Young Sheldon” Inspires New STEM Grant Program

Inspired by the hit comedy “Young Sheldon” The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation (TCLIFF) has created The Young Sheldon STEM Initiative to continue funding innovative efforts in STEM education. The new grant program intends to excite science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning in the nation’s public schools, teachers and students.

University Of Saint Joseph Receives $650K NSF Grant

The National Science Foundation has given the University of Saint Joseph a $650,000 grant to help attract low-income, high achieving students specifically for STEM (science, technology engineering, math) education. The grant moneys will help support a number of initiatives including scholarships and internships.

CUNY Awarded $3.97M Grant From National Science Foundation

The City University of New York (CUNY) is being awarded a five-year, $3.97 million Louis Stokes STEM Pathways and Research Alliance Implementation Project grant from the National Science Foundation. Thirteen CUNY institutions are using the grant to increase the number of underrepresented minority students in STEM.

$25M Donation Set To Fuel Vanderbilt Military Scholarships

The Lee and Ramona Bass Foundation has donated $25 million to support a scholarship program for veterans at Vanderbilt University. The new program, which is to be named the Bass Military Scholars Program, will fund at least six scholarships for veterans starting in the school year for 2019-2020.

Deal Gives Community College Graduates Shot At $10K Degrees

A deal between Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) and Fayetteville State University (FSU) will allow GTCC graduates earn bachelor’s degrees for an amount not exceeding $10,000. The deal specifically assists graduates pursuing degrees in fire and emergency services administration, criminal justice, business administration, psychology and sociology.

WIU Waives Application Fee For Fifth Consecutive Year

For the fifth consecutive year area high school students will have their application fee to Western Illinois University waived. Additionally, an automatic scholarship that covers two-thirds of tuition costs is available to high school seniors that attend WIU classes before their high school graduation.

SpongeBob Creator Gifts $135K To HSU

Stephen Hillenburg, the creator of the Nickelodeon cartoon series “SpongeBob Squarepants” and an alumnus of Humboldt State University, and his wife Karen have gifted $135,000 to HSU to support marine sciences research, including student research projects in oceanography, marine fisheries and marine biology.

Entergy Grants $2M To Louisiana College Engineering Program

Southern University in Baton Rouge has received $2 million from Entergy for the school’s engineering program. The money is slated to support lab upgrades and engineering classroom, as well as bolster faculty professional development and engineering curriculum and create internship programs.

SUNY Receives $5M To Support Got Your Back Program

The State University of New York (SUNY) just received $5 million in funding from the state Office of Victim Services expanding the SUNY’s Got Your Back program that was established in 2016, allowing the university to supply and distribute 225,000 comfort bags to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence throughout the state.
