New UW Budget Calls For Higher Fees, Room-And-Board Costs [Education News]

The University of Wisconsin System regents are set to approve a new budget that would increase student fees as well as room and board costs. The regents are scheduled to approve the 2018-19 budget Friday at UW-Milwaukee. The spending plan calls for raising student fees at four-year schools an average of $33 per student. Room and board would increase an average of $118.

Family Of Teen Killed In Shooting Launches UConn Scholarship [Education News]

The parents of a student killed in the mass shooting at a Florida high school have started a scholarship at the University of Connecticut in his memory. The Hartford Courant reported Tuesday Max Schachter and his wife, Caryn DeSacia, have launched a scholarship in honor of their 14-year-old son, Alex Schachter, who was killed in the February shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Increased Amounts Set For New Mexico Lottery Scholarships [Education News]

The amount of per-student financial aid provided by scholarships mostly funded by New Mexico Lottery revenue is going up. The Albuquerque Journal reports that increases that exceed more than $1,100 for some students will result from additional funding provided by the state and a reduced demand for scholarships due to enrollment drops.

15 Illinois Libraries To Share $724K In State Grants

Fifteen libraries across Illinois will share more than $700,000 in state grants to help pay for critical remodeling and renovation projects. Among the libraries receiving money are Benton Public Library District, Elmwood Park Public Library and Selby Township Library District in DePue. Several libraries are receiving money to help make facilities accessible to people with disabilities. Others will use the money for new roofs or HVAC systems.
