Indiana State University Student Radio Gets Boosts

Makyla Thompson is one of the talents behind Indiana State University's student-produced radio talk show, and her voice will soon have a more reliable signal when a new transmitter is powered up. The equipment for WISU-FM 89.7 should be installed by semester's end, marking the non-commercial station's first technical upgrades in more than 20 years.

Delgado Community College Introduces High School Students to High-Wage, High-Demand Occupations in New Orleans

In the spring of 2016, 15 students from New Orleans earned their high school degrees while simultaneously earning a certificate of technical studies (CTS) after attending a technical skills expo (TSE) hosted by Delgado Community College. Graduates included eight students from Grace King High School and seven males from Warren Easton Charter High School. Affectionately known as the "Super Seven" across the country, the Warren Easton graduates challenged each other to join the dual enrollment program together. Beginning their junior year, the Super Seven and Grace King students attended both high school classes and Delgado courses. Through countless study groups and collaborative support they were able to balance dual enrollment and successfully completed the program.

UMaine-Augusta to Offer Noncredit Course on Operating Drones

The University of Maine at Augusta is set to offer the state's first university-level course in operating unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones. The noncredit class is open to the public, not just UMaine-Augusta students. The school plans to offer a comprehensive series of courses that will prepare students for the FAA examinations required to become a licensed drone pilot.

UCI Is First to Conduct Formal Study of Virtual Inclusion for Homebound Students

Chronically ill, homebound children who use robotic surrogates to “attend” school feel more socially connected with their peers and more involved academically, according to a first-of-its-kind study by University of California, Irvine education researchers. From home, a student controlling the device can see and hear everything in the classroom.

A new undergraduate program that integrates the study of engineering and business launched today at the University of California, Berkeley. The Management, Entrepreneurship, & Technology Program (M.E.T.) will be taught at Berkeley’s top-ranked Haas School of Business and College of Engineering. The M.E.T. Program is designed to give students a seamless understanding of technology innovation, preparing future leaders who will create real-world impact.

The College Of New Jersey and PSE&G Cut Ribbon on Electric Vehicle Charging System

Officials from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) has marked the completion of a five-station electric vehicle (EV) charging system at the Ewing, N.J., college. The TCNJ EV charging system is located in the Metzger Parking Garage and is part of a PSE&G pilot program designed to help spur the adoption of electric vehicles in the utility's electric service territory.

$2.1 Million IGEM Grant to Make UI a Leader in Cyber Physical Control Systems Security

University of Idaho researchers have received a $2.1 million grant from the Idaho State Board of Education, Higher Education Research Council’s Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) will fund a three year proposal titled Security Management of Cyber Physical Control Systems (CPCS). State-based industry will play a key role in aiding the team’s incubation and development of innovative products and services for safeguarding cyber physical control systems.

IURTC reports 43 licensing agreements in 2015-16 fiscal year

Officials at Indiana University Research and Technology Corp., which protects, markets and licenses intellectual property developed at Indiana University so it can be commercialized by industry, have reported a year-over-year 72 percent increase in licensing agreements. From July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016, IURTC completed 43 licensing agreements. There were 25 licenses in the previous fiscal year.

USC Marshall Partners with National Nonprofit Organization to Close the Gender-Gap in Technology

The USC Marshall School of Business will partner with Girls Who Code, a national nonprofit organization working to close the gender-gap in technology, in hosting a summer immersion program for local high school girls June 27-August 12, 2016. Forty 10th and 11th-grade girls from area schools will attend the seven-week session, which will be held in the dedicated classroom space of USC Marshall’s Centers of Excellence, in the USC Building in downtown Los Angeles.

Eight Mountain View College students, including seven who are studying mechatronics, are enjoying a dream internship this summer at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in northern New Mexico. Their studies in mechatronics – a discipline that combines mechanics, electricity, electronics and computers – secured their place on the team.

Indiana University digitization initiative preserves more than 100,000 items in first year with Sony's Memnon Service

Just one year into its massive digitization initiative, Indiana University has already rescued from ruin more than 100,000 precious audio and video recordings, thanks to a successful collaboration with Memnon Inc., a Sony company. Today, IU announced that it has extended the use of the facilities, created for its Media Digitization and Preservation Initiative (MDPI) project with Memnon, to enable Memnon to accept digitization work from new clients including other universities, museums and commercial broadcasters.
