Financing October 2018 UC Davis Awarded $4.9M Grant For Free Open Textbook Program The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $4.9 million grant for the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) to develop a free open textbooks program for select subjects. Funded by the Congress FY 2018 omnibus spending bill, UC Davis will lead collaboration among 12 campuses.
Global October 2018 Musk $480K Donation To Pay For Flint Schools Water Filtration Systems The Musk Foundation is donating $480,000 to allow schools in Flint, Michigan, to install ultraviolet water filtration systems to their drinking fountains. These new systems are expected to be installed at all 12 of the schools, as well as the district’s administration building by the end of January.
Financing October 2018 Kansas State Ending Merit-Based Putnam Scholarships Kansas State University is no longer offering the $9,000 per year Putnam Scholarship to students. A student could have the Putnam Scholarship for four years. The move is because Kansas State is shifting from totally merit-based scholarships to need plus merit-based ones.
