Hispanic Community October 2024 Riverland Community College: A Beacon of Opportunity and Growth in Southeastern Minnesota Riverland Community College, founded in 1996, plays a vital role in southeastern Minnesota’s workforce development and education. Hispanic Community August 2018 Claim Involves Death Of Child After Stay In Detention Center The Arizona city of Eloy is facing legal claims that they did not make sure an immigration detention center maintained safe and sanitary conditions, and that this led to the death of a toddler. The detention center in question is operated by CoreCivic, which subcontracts with Eloy for the services.
Global August 2018 California Closer To Making Colleges Offer Abortion Drugs The California Assembly has approved a measure, which would require all public universities in California to offer abortion medication at the health centers on their campuses. This measure still needs to return to the Senate for a final sign off. If passed, this would make California the first state to have this requirement.
Hispanic Community August 2018 $10M Awarded To 6 CSU Campuses To Support Latino STEM Education The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded six California State University campuses $10 million to support Latino STEM Education fields. Fullerton, Northridge, Pomona, Sacramento, San Diego and Stanislaus are among the 31 colleges and universities to receive NSF’S first-ever grant program intended to increase retention and graduation rates for STEM students that are attending Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs).
Global August 2018 College Bound Dorchester Honors Students at its Sixth Annual I Am My Future Matriculation Ceremon At a recent ceremony more than 60 college bound students were honored at College Bound Dorchester’s annual “I am My Future” Matriculation Celebration. Several members of this group were members of the Boston Uncornered initative, which works with former gang members, supporting their social-emotional development through neighborhood-based mentors and education stipends.
Financing August 2018 $30,000 In College Scholarships Available Through "Reel" Milk Moment Video Contest Arizona Milk Producers have added a new component to their scholarship contest – online videos. The Arizona Milk Producers Scholarship Contest, which has been in existence for more than 50 years, is now having applicants create and share a :30 or less "Reel" Milk Moment video that features at least one dairy product.
Financing August 2018 Bill Gates Directs Education Funding To Poor US Schools The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have announced the first round of nearly $100 million to help middle and high schools in 13 states. This first round will benefit a specific 19 program initiatives, and Gates has also pledged $460 million over the next five years to fund programs to help low-income and minority students get into college.
