Health Care January 2018 Arizona Higher Education Institution, State Split $2.2M Grant for Opioid Overdose Training The University of Arizona and the state health department have been awarded a $2.2 million grant to train rural firefighters and police officers in how to recognize and treat opioid overdoses. The federal grant announced Wednesday will help pay for the university's Center for Rural Health and the state Bureau of Emergency Services to provide the training.
Hispanic Community January 2018 Higher Education Student in US Illegally Free after Weeks in Custody A University of California, Berkeley student has been released after nearly three weeks in an immigration facility near the U.S.-Mexico border. His attorney says Luis Mora was released unconditionally from the Otay Mesa Detention Facility on Wednesday. Officials say Mora overstayed his visa while visiting the U.S. from Colombia as a child and is not authorized to be in the country.

Some Democrats who met with White House chief of staff John Kelly on Wednesday say Kelly told them parts of the border don't need a wall — and that Trump didn't know that when making campaign promises.

The scholarship will be awarded in May 2018 in Pittsburgh at the annual Golden Quills Awards Dinner sponsored by The Press Club.
Financing January 2018 Boston Higher Education Institution Receives $10M Gift from Alumnus A graduate of Suffolk University has pledged a record $10 million to the school for a scholarship fund for students in need from Massachusetts. The gift is the largest single alumni donation in the university's history. Suffolk will name a new classroom building after the donor, Leonard Samia.
