Program At Eastern Michigan U Offers 2 Years Of Tuition

Eastern Michigan University’s new 4WARD Graduation Scholarship program will pay for a student’s last two years of college if the student is willing to commit to paying for his or her first two years of tuition at a locked-in rate that’s expected to be a little more than $13,000 a year for 30 credits.

University Of Louisville Receives $5M To Help Tree Study

The University of Louisville is helping urban areas go green thanks to two grants totally $5 million. The university and its partners are planning to plant thousands of shrugs, grasses and trees in urban areas as part of a study to determine if the plants’ natural ability to remove pollutants from the air has an impact on human health.

Foe Accused By Maduro Says Venezuela Military Is Fracturing

Exiled Julio Borges, who formerly led the opposition-controlled National Assembly in Venezuela, said the fact that two high-ranking military officers have been arrested in connection to the attempted assassination on President Nicolas Maduro points to increased fracturing within Venezuela’s armed forces. The failed attack on Maduro involved drones loaded with plastic explosives.

Senate Study Faults Government Care Of Migrant Children

A 52-page bipartisan Senate report states there are “major deficiencies” in how the government is caring for thousands of migrant children. Among concerns raised in the study are that no federal agency is taking responsibility for ensuring that these children are not being used in human trafficking or being abused.

NY University Offers Free Tuition For All Medical Students

In a move that is a first among major medical schools in the U.S., New York University (NYU) is offering all its medical students free tuition. Currently, NYU has raised more than $450 million to fund this new tuition package, but the school estimates that it will need around $600 million to fund it in perpetuity.

U Of Nevada Awarded $50K For Student-Run Bilingual Newsroom

The University of Nevada, Reno, Reynolds School of Journalism was just awarded a $50,000 Grand Prize for Innovation in Journalism Education from the Online News Association (ONA). ONA’s Challenge Fund recognizes the best implementation of a project. The prize is honoring Noticiero Movil, the student-run bilingual media newsroom at the Reynolds School.

President Donald Trump labels the Mueller Probe "McCarthyism." The sex scandal regarding Roman Catholic priests in Pennsylvania has lead some conservations to demand the purge of all gay priests. Shots were fired at a security booth outside the U.S. mission in Turkey's capital. Families separated by war in North and South Korea were reunited.

DC Judge: For Now, No Need To Accept New DACA Applications

U.S. District Judge John D. Bates has put on hold a portion of his ruling regarding DACA. According to his ruling, the Trump administration must continue to process renewals for anyone already participating in the DACA program, but the administration is now not required to process new DACA program applications.

US School Districts Weigh Duty To Youth Migrant Shelters

U.S. school systems are getting ready for the first day of school not just in their public schools but also in new classrooms that have been set up in youth migrant shelters. In San Benito, Texas, for example, the superintendent authorized sending 19 bilingual teachers, hundreds of computers and mobile classrooms.

Logic Stages Immigrant Protest At VMAs With Parents, Kids

Protests against the separation and detention of families at the border were part of the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night. More than two dozen immigrant children formed a “human wall,” and their parents simulated family reunions with hugs. Both the parents and the children wore T-shirts with the message “We are All Human Beings.” Three advocacy group’s immigrant leaders also participated in the demonstration.

APNewsBreak: Complaint: Migrant Parents Coerced By Officials

According to a complaint provided to The Associated Press, dozens of mothers and fathers that were separated from their children at the border were coerced by U.S. immigration authorities to sign documents in English that they could not understand and in some cases gave away the rights to be reunited with their children because of it.
