Musk $480K Donation To Pay For Flint Schools Water Filtration Systems

The Musk Foundation is donating $480,000 to allow schools in Flint, Michigan, to install ultraviolet water filtration systems to their drinking fountains. These new systems are expected to be installed at all 12 of the schools, as well as the district’s administration building by the end of January.

Vermont To Receive $400k In US Funds For School Safety

Funds totally $400,000 are being used to help with school safety in Vermont. Part of the funds will go towards expanding a program called SurviVermont, which hosts public forums and education efforts for students, teachers and the public in general. The funds will also support a School Safety Tip Line.

A case involving immigration is before the Supreme Court. The case involves long-term green card holders who are eligible to be deported because they have been convicted of a broad range of crimes. Current immigration law says noncitizens who are convicted of certain crimes should be detained when they are released from state custody or federal custody.

In Oregon, A Community Responds To Imprisonment Of Migrants

Approximately 1,600 immigrants who have been apprehended along the U.S.-Mexico border, were then transferred to federal prisons in five states after President Trump's "zero tolerance" policy left the usual facilities short on space. An ad hoc group of volunteers, including retirees, recent college graduates, lawyers and clergy, are helping migrants being detained in Oregon.

Fear, sickness and police harassment are chipping away at the migrant caravan, which resumed its journey today towards the U.S.-Mexico border. The group of 4,000 to 5,000 migrants includes children and toddlers in strollers. The trek ahead of them is more than 1,000 miles before they reach the border.
