The Media School at Indiana University (IU) has received a $6 million dollar gift from an IU Bloomington alumnus. The school is planning to use the money for a center that will focus on the teaching and production of investigative journalism.

ALMA Awards Return After 3 Years In Agreement With Fuse

A multi-year agreement with Fuse Media means the ALMAs or the American Latino Media Arts Awards will be returning this fall after a three-year hiatus. The ALMAs’ return coincides with the 50th anniversary of UnidosUS, which was previously known as National Council of La Raza.

Carlos Bravo is one of those soft-spoken souls whose words take on more depth in their storytelling capacity. He appreciates words, languages, literature. As a poet, each word weighs heavy on interpretation and connectivity, emotion and perspective. The poems he’s written freezeframe highlights and lowlights of individuals and society, observations and desires for humankind, emotional and heartfelt snapshots of life in action. The title of his compilation, “AMBROSÍA: A MANOS LLENAS,” gives thanks to the nectar of the gods—and acknowledges that if we accept life’s gifts with open hands, our lives will be filled with abundance.

Logic Stages Immigrant Protest At VMAs With Parents, Kids

Protests against the separation and detention of families at the border were part of the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night. More than two dozen immigrant children formed a “human wall,” and their parents simulated family reunions with hugs. Both the parents and the children wore T-shirts with the message “We are All Human Beings.” Three advocacy group’s immigrant leaders also participated in the demonstration.

U Of Nevada Awarded $50K For Student-Run Bilingual Newsroom

The University of Nevada, Reno, Reynolds School of Journalism was just awarded a $50,000 Grand Prize for Innovation in Journalism Education from the Online News Association (ONA). ONA’s Challenge Fund recognizes the best implementation of a project. The prize is honoring Noticiero Movil, the student-run bilingual media newsroom at the Reynolds School.

Kennedy Center To Honor “Hamilton” Co-Creators

The Kennedy Center has announced their 2018 Honorees that will be honored at their 41st annual celebration of the arts held on December 2. Artists that will be honored at the ceremony include the co-creators of “Hamilton” Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Andy Blankenbuehler and Alex Lacamoire, as well as Cher, Reba McEntire, Philip Glass, and Wayne Shorter.

Special Benefit Event At San Diego Natural History Museum [Education News]

“An Evening with Annette Bening” will take place at the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park on Thursday, September 20 at 6:30 p.m. to benefit the San Diego Promise. Bening is an alumnus of the San Diego Community College District, as well as a four-time Academy Award nominee for her works in various movies including “Being Julia,” “The American President,” and “American Beauty.”
