North Texas Boy, 12, to Attend Cornell University this Fall

A Dallas-area boy who's not yet a teenager plans to attend Cornell University this fall and study engineering physics and math. A Cornell tweet Monday welcomed Jeremy Shuler of Grand Prairie, saying: "He's 12, he's from Texas, and he's very, very smart." Jeremy was home schooled. His high school diploma is from the Texas Tech University Independent School District, a flexible online program.

UT Austin Selected for National Experiment with Funding for Nontraditional Students

The University of Texas at Austin is one of eight universities selected to participate with private sector partners in a new, experimental U.S. Department of Education program that will allow nontraditional students to have access to $17 million in financial aid. The Educational Quality through Innovative Partnerships (EQUIP) program will allow students to access federal student aid to enroll in courses.

WVSU Chemistry Professor Leads Effort to Replace Science Equipment Lost in June Floods

Since flood waters destroyed communities throughout West Virginia in late June, West Virginia State University (WVSU) Associate Professor of Chemistry Dr. Micheal Fultz has been coordinating an effort to ensure science education remains a part of those schools that were impacted including Herbert Hoover High School, Elkview Middle School and Richwood Middle School.

Student-Run Nonprofit Inspires Miracles for Children in Need

A Moment of Magic Foundation works tirelessly to make miracles happen for children in need across New York State and beyond. The group, formerly known on campus as The Princess Project, has recently been recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The program provides college-age students the opportunity to volunteer at numerous hospitals, schools, camps, and social service agencies.

It’s back-to-school time at the University of Southern California (USC). Welcome Week events include a two-hour session for first-generation college families. USC ranks amongst the top of private universities nationally for the percentage of low-income students it enrolls, as measured by Pell Grant eligibility.

Rutgers Business School Offers Customer Centricity Certificate Program

Rutgers Business School has announced a new certificate program in customer centricity. The first Mini-MBA: Customer-Centric Management course will be offered by Rutgers Business School Executive Education in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Attendees of this program will gain the knowledge to put a strategy in place that ensures the customer is at the center of a business's philosophy, operations or ideas.

UT in Knoxville Has Largest Freshmen Class in 30 Years

The University of Tennessee in Knoxville says it is welcoming its largest freshman class in at least 30 years. The university says the class has 4,825 incoming students, marking the sixth consecutive year of freshman growth. Classes don't start for another week, but students are starting to return to campus this week.

Professor Beverley Milton-Edwards, who is regarded as one of the world’s leading experts on violence, terrorism and security, will undertake a project on Security Governance in the Middle East and the Challenge of Islamism.

Negative Attention from Teachers Can Lead to More Negative Student Behaviors
