Hispanic Community November 2018 Dems: Latino Turnout Up 174 Percent Over '14 In Early Voting Latino voter turnout was instrumental in the Democratic party taking back the House in the 2018 midterm elections, according to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. According to the Committee, Latino participation in the midterms was up by 174 percent over 2014.
Financing November 2018 New Scholarship Will Benefit Students In Virginia City Virginia Union University is partnering with Richmond’s school system to create a new scholarship program that will give 50 local students full academic scholarships in order to attend the university. The application process will be open for eighth-graders this coming January.
Global November 2018 USF Helps Launch Unprecedented National Education Effort The University of South Florida is part of a national education effort organized by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. This effort—the Powered by Publics: Scaling Student Success—will involve 130 public universities and systems with the goal of closing the achievement gap, increasing college access and awarding hundreds of thousands more degrees by 2025.
Hispanic Community November 2018 Colombia Opens Camp For Venezuela Migrants As Exodus Swells With the number of Venezuela migrants fleeing their nation rising, Colombia have moved the homeless migrants to a camp inside a soccer field. The field itself is filled with cots and yellow tents, and the creation of the camp has sparked a protest.
Legal November 2018 Lawyers Seek 'Apprentice' Tapes In Trump Immigration Suit Lawyers have subpoenaed Trump Productions LLC and MGM Holdings Inc. to obtain unaired tapes of the reality TV show “The Apprentice” as part of their case against President Donald Trump’s ending of special protections that shield some immigrants from deportation. Specifically, the lawyers are seeking footage where Trump "uses racial and/or ethnic slurs" or "makes remarks concerning race, nationality and/or ethnic background."
Financing November 2018 U Of Texas Receives $3M Gift The University of Texas Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management has received a $3 million gift from North Texas real estate luminaires Donna and Herb Weitzman. The gift will create the Herbert D. Weitzman Institute for Real Estate. Scholarships will be available for eligible undergraduate finance and administration students with a concentration on real estate.
