Excelencia in Education receives $1.5 million to promote Latino student achievement in higher education

Excelencia in Education today announced $1.5 million in grants from the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation and Lumina Foundation to expand strategies that accelerate Latino student success in higher education. Great Lakes and Lumina have each awarded Excelencia $750,000 to advance awareness and implementation of effective, evidence-based practices that increase Latino student success.

Detroit Museum Loans Prints for Oakland University Exhibit

The Detroit Institute of Arts is loaning 20 prints created by Works Projects Administration artists for an exhibition at the Oakland University Art Gallery. The free exhibition features dozens of prints from the 1920s to the 1940s. The WPA put millions of unemployed people to work in public works jobs and a unit commissioned artists to make prints.

University of Michigan OKs $500M in Construction, Renovation

University of Michigan officials have approved nearly $500 million in construction and six renovation projects at its three campuses in Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint. About $90 million of the total price tag is covered by state funding. Ford Motor Co. is providing money toward the robotics lab work and will perform collaborative research in the building.

IU president highlights major progress at university, unveils first IU Bicentennial programs

During his annual State of the University address, Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie reported on a record-setting year for the university and also announced several new initiatives as the university moves forward with planning for its bicentennial celebration in 2020. McRobbie also shared an update on the university's work to preserve approximately 400,000 tapes, reels, cassettes, films and wax cylinder.

$60 million gift names USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work

Suzanne Dworak-Peck has donated $60 million to endow and name the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. The gift is one of the largest contributions from an individual to a school of its kind. The USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work educates one of every 20 master’s level social workers in the U.S. and has an alumni network of 15,000.
