University Of Florida Leads In Professor Raises

University of Florida is leading the state when it comes to raises for its professors, according to a new study by the American Association of University Professors. Full-time professors at the University’s Gainesville location got on average an 8.8 percent salary increase in 2017-18.

Students From 2 Universities Demonstrate For And Against Kavanaugh

The follow are two stories from the Associated Press this week regarding Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination for the Supreme Court and allegations of sexual misconduct deeds made against him by three women. Students from Yale University have protested the nomination of Kavanaugh with a sit-in and by traveling to Washington, and students from Liberty University are planning to travel to Washington to support Kavanaugh.

U of Virginia Earns NSF $3M Grant

The University of Virginia School (UVA) of Engineering has earned a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to launch a graduate program in cyber-physical systems. UVA Engineering’s Link Lab is developing a new program that trains graduate students in making discoveries that can be translated into new technologies, products and services.

UCF Extends In-State Tuition To Students From Puerto Rico

The University of Central Florida’s trustees voted to waive out-of-state fees for students from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands who came to the school after Hurricane Maria. This in-state tuition offer has been extended through 2023. Students must remain enrolled continuously in order to quality.

Brett Kavanaugh Will Not Return To Teach At Harvard Law

Administrators at Harvard announced by email that Judge Brett Kavanaugh will not be returning to teach at Harvard Law School in January. Kavanaugh was scheduled to teach a course entitled The Supreme Court Since 2005, which is a three-week course that he has taught at Harvard Law School for about a decade.

Firms Sell School 'Hardening' As Mass Shooting Solution

When a former student shot and killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, it publicly reignited the gun-control debate, and privately propelled security industry efforts to sell school fortification as the answer to preventing more children from being killed. Nonprofit groups linked to the industry and security firms have persuaded lawmakers to elevate the "hardening" of schools over other measures.

BFIT And Prime Motor Group Announce Prime Scholars Program

Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology and Prime Motor Group have established the Prime Scholars program. As many as 15 students will work directly with the company part-time as they pursue their degrees, receive $5,000 scholarships from Prime Motor Group, and develop the skills necessary to secure jobs with Prime Motor Group upon graduation.

Hundreds Of US Teacher Candidates Shake Up Midterm Elections

Former and current educators are on general election ballots for the upcoming midterm elections, running for everything from the school board to the governor. Most of these candidates are Democrats. This number far exceeds educator candidacies prior to this year’s #RedForEd protests.
