Northern Maine University Receives Largest Gift In History

The University of Maine at Presque Isle has received the largest one-time gift in the history of the school. The $1 million gift will be used to establish the university’s first endowed chair: the Dr. Robert Vinton Akeley Chair of Agricultural Science and Agribusiness.

President Donald Trump is planning to dispatch 800 or more troops to the U.S.-Mexico border as a caravan consisting of thousands of migrants continues to travel through Mexico towards the United States. The caravan is currently more than 1,000 miles from U.S. soil.

Parent-Led Group Hopes To Help Hungry Kids In Minnesota

Feeding Area Children Together, a parent-led group, has distributed more than 23,000 meal packs to St. Cloud-area children in a little more than a year. This is roughly the equivalent of the combined student populations of St. Cloud Community & Technical College, St. Cloud State University, St. John's University and the College of St. Benedict.

US Sending 5,200 Troops To Border

As the migrant caravan continues to make its way towards, the Pentagon is sending 2,500 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. This number is more than double the 2,000 troops who are currently in Syria to fight the Islamic State group.

Sony Electronics is partnering with 11 higher education institutions to create opportunities through technology solutions and active-learning practices. The initiative is designed to incorporate the role technology plays in teaching and learning. Members of the Future Learning Collaborative are working with Sony designers and researchers to develop and enable classroom technologies to execute more effective teaching methods.

NY To Spend $10M On Security At Religious Schools, Centers

Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York has announced that $10 million in grants is available for religious centers and schools to improve their security measures. The grants can be used for a number of measures including security training, secure doors and surveillance cameras.

WVU Teams With Another School For Shared-Credit Program

Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania and West Virginia University's School of Public Health are teaming up to offer students a shared-credit degree program. Under this new program, students can now earn a bachelor of arts in mathematics and a master of science in biostatistics in five years.

U Of New Hampshire Creates 4-H Scholarships

Starting in the fall of 2019, students at the University of New Hampshire will receive $500 scholarships for each year of active participation in 4-H programs. Under this new scholarship program students can earn a maximum annual scholarship of $5,000.

WPU is a hosting a gun safety panel. Featured panelists include two students Taylor Morales and Macey Wonacott who lived through the shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School, Tom Campbell, Director of the Newtown Foundation and The Newtown Action Alliance; Brett Sabo, the New Jersey State Chapter Leader of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America; and Lieutenant George Guzman, of the Haledon Police Department.

Trump Says Border Troops Could Hit 15K, Surprising Pentagon

The number of U.S. military troops sent to the United States’ southern border could be as high as 15,000, according to President Donald Trump. This surprised Pentagon officials who said that "more than 7,000" troops were being sent to the border to support Customs and Border Protection agents, but that under current plans that number could reach a maximum of 8,000.
