The midterm elections were widely viewed as a referendum on President Donald Trump’s first term. One of the results of the election were a record number of women being elected to the House of Representatives. According to data compiled by AP, 237 women ran for the House as major-party candidates.

Migrants Weigh Whether To Stay In Mexico, Resume Trek To US

The migrant caravan is resting for at least a couple of days in Mexico’s capital as they debate continuing their journey to the United States border or remain in Mexico. The government in Mexico said 2,697 temporary visas have been issued to families and individuals, and Mexico is offering asylum, refugee or work visas to the migrants.

With Matthew Whitaker become the new acting attorney general after Jeff Sessions was pushed out of office, concerns are rising over the future of Robert Mueller’s Russia probe. Whitaker has questioned the scope of the inquiry and spoken publicly about ways an attorney general could stymie the investigation.

Justice Ginsburg, 85, Hospitalized

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was hospitalized after falling in her office at the Supreme Court, resulting in her fracturing three ribs. In her absence while she is at Washington University Hospital in Washington, the Supreme Court is moving forward with a ceremony welcoming new Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Both President Donald Trump and new acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker are expected to attend.

41 Latinos In Congress, 2 Races Still Undecided

Although two races remain undecided, the number of Latinos who will be serving in Congress in 2019 will be rising to at least 41. There were 44 Latino Democratic candidates who ran in the midterm elections, and 33 of those 44 won. There were also 15 Latino Republican candidates who ran, and of those six won.

Motel 6: $7.6 Million For Guests Reported To Immigration

Motel 6 has agreed to pay Latino guests who were reported to immigration by the company’s employees up to $7.6 million. According to the guests and the proposed settlement that was filed in federal court, the company’s employees shared the guests’ private information with immigration officials.

Trump Limits Asylum, Says People Must 'Come In Legally'

President Trump has limited those seeking asylum by circumventing laws that state that anyone is eligible for asylum regardless of how the individual enters the country. Officials with the administration have said that the measures are in effect for at least three months but could also be extended.

Rutgers To Offer Master’s Degree Program In Forensic Science

Rutgers University-Camden will start offering a master’s degree program in forensic science in the fall of 2019. They are the first institution of higher education in New Jersey to offer the forensic science MSFS program. The new program will cover theory, concepts and the practical uses of biology, chemistry and biochemistry.
