Columbia University School of Nursing Awarded $7.9 Million Grant to Develop Mobile HIV Intervention for High Risk Young Men

Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) comprise more than half the population living with HIV/AIDS in the U.S. despite accounting for just 2 percent of the population. A research team led by Rebecca Schnall, PhD, assistant professor at Columbia University School of Nursing, was awarded a $7.9 million grant from The National Institutes of Health to address this disparity.

University of Arizona Gets Funds for Asthma Research

A renowned scientist at the University of Arizona has been awarded $7 million from the National Institutes of Health to boost research related to asthma. As part of the five-year grant, Monica Kraft and her colleagues will be working to better understand complex genetic interactions with the hope of reducing lung inflammation and attacks in asthma patients.

University of San Francisco Graduates First Cohort of Nurses Focused on Veterans

The University of San Francisco (USF) School of Nursing and Health Professionals is proud to announce the inaugural class of graduates who participated in the Veteran Affairs Nursing Academic Partnership (VANAP), a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs funded program with the Veteran Affairs Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) and USF's School of Nursing and Health Professions to educated well-qualified nurses with specialized training in health issues facing veterans.

Keck Foundation Supports New Biomedical Engineering Program

Cal State Fullerton has received a $300,000 grant from the W. M. Keck Foundation to develop an undergraduate biomedical engineering program with a medical device emphasis. The grant will support purchasing specialized lab equipment and developing curriculum for the new program, which will prepare students for careers as practicing engineers in the fields of biomedical engineering, and assistive and rehabilitation technology.

Niagara University Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program Receives CACREP Accreditation

Niagara University's clinical mental health counseling program has received accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. Accreditation by CACREP, which is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, provides confirmation that the content and quality of an educational program has been evaluated and meets the highest standards set by the counseling profession.

Seton Hall University and Hackensack Meridian Health Sign Agreement to Lease Former Roche Site for New School of Medicine

Seton Hall University and Hackensack Meridian Health announced today that the two organizations have signed an agreement for a long-term lease with the real estate development firm Prism Capital Partners to lease 16 acres including two state-of-the-art buildings on the former Hoffmann-La Roche biomedical campus located in Nutley and Clifton, New Jersey, to serve as the home for their new health and medical sciences campus.

Henry Ford College Nursing Students Hold Fundraisers for Belize Humanitarian Trip in December

A team of 14 Henry Ford College (HFC) nursing students and faculty members are holding fundraisers in late July and August to aid in funding their humanitarian trip to Belize on a mission of mercy in late December through International Service Learning (ISL). The nursing students will provide acute medical care and health education to vulnerable populations in Belize, a country located on the eastern coast of Central America. Belize is the only country in Central America where the official language is English.

University of Louisville Awarded Pediatric Research Grant

Norton Healthcare is giving a $1.25 million grant to the University of Louisville for pediatric research. About $400,000 will go to the Kosair Children's Hospital Research Institute for research into multi-organ diseases that stem from diabetes or obesity; $300,000 will go to the Child and Adolescent Health Research Design and Support Unit to reduce the number of psychiatric prescriptions that give too much medicine to children; and $250,000 will go to the University of Louisville Autism Center at Kosair Charities.

Oklahoma State Receives $11.3 Million for Children's Health

An $11.3 million grant has been awarded to Oklahoma State University to create a program designed to eliminate disparities in children's health due to race, ethnicity and socioeconomic status. The grant from the National Institutes of Health will create the Children's Health Equity Solutions Center through OSU's Center for Health Sciences. The research will be conducted by a multi-institutional group of OSU and University of Oklahoma-Tulsa researchers.
