Utah Valley University Celebrates 75th Anniversary with Unveiling of 200-foot-long Stained Glass Wall of Windows - Roots of Knowledge

Marking the culmination of its 75th anniversary, Utah Valley University (UVU) will unveil for the first time Friday a massive stained glass window project now 12 years in the making called "Roots of Knowledge." The 10-foot high, 200-foot wide 80-pane panorama pays tribute to the finest human achievements in art, architecture, music, law, literature, philosophy, medicine, science and technology. The Roots of Knowledge unveiling bookends a year-long celebration for UVU as its 75th anniversary year draws to an end. Home to more than 35,000 students, UVU began as a vocational school during World War II, and in the seven decades since has evolved into a technical school, community college, state college and, finally, a comprehensive regional teaching university.

Centenary ranks #1 among colleges sending students abroad

Centenary College of Louisiana ranks #1 in the percentage of undergraduate students participating in study abroad programs among baccalaureate colleges in the United States. The Institute of International Education (IIE) partnered with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to compile the annual Open Doors Report on International Exchange Data released on November 14.

CU Boulder remains top in state for sending, receiving students internationally

The University of Colorado Boulder enrolled more international students during the 2015-16 academic year and sent more students abroad during the 2014-15 academic year than any other higher education institution in Colorado. The data, released today by the Institute of International Education in its annual Open Doors Report, show that CU Boulder was home to 2,951 international students during the 2015-16 school year, up from 2,614 in 2014-15. In addition, CU Boulder sent 1,592 students overseas during the 2014-15 school year, up from 1,541 in 2013-14. Year over year, the total number of U.S. study abroad students enrolled in Colorado was nearly flat with 5,355 in the 2013-14 academic year and 5,350 in 2014-15.

Indiana University Students Hold Unity Rally after Election

Students at Indiana University have gathered for a unity rally following the election. A crowd turned out Thursday night at Showalter Fountain on the school's Bloomington campus to celebrate values of dignity and respect. Participants held signs including ones reading "Sanctuary Campus NOW," with some students calling on the school to stand in the way of potential deportations. President-elect Donald Trump launched his candidacy on an anti-immigrant sentiment and has vowed to repeal a key Obama administration program that shields hundreds of thousands of people from deportation. His election brought fear of deportations.

DCCCD students learn more than hard skills for the job market

Some digital media students at Eastfield College may have thought that just knowing how to use a computer to design graphics would be enough to get a job. However, industry groups in North Texas and around the country say that they are struggling to find employees who have soft skills – those intangible assets, such as communication and critical thinking, which help workers become more productive.

Morris County High School Students Learn at Kean University's Highlands Living Lab

Kean University recently gave students from the Morris County Vocational School District Environmental Academy the chance for real-world scientific observation at the University's new Highlands campus in Oak Ridge. The students, working with ecology professor Daniela Shebitz, Ph.D,  from Kean's School of Environmentaland Sustainability Sciences (SESS), conducted experiments and made scientific observations. They identified trees and other flora found in the Highlands, quantified species diversity, and learned how to measure the height and diameter of trees. The students also had a Q&A session with Dr. Shebitz and collected a core sample of a tree.

Nov. 5 Pumpkin Chunkin' Contest to Attract Thousands to CSUF

With their eyes on the first-place Pumpkin Launch trophy, the members of Cal State Fullerton's all-female student engineering team rolled up their sleeves to build a new launcher for the Saturday, Nov. 5, competition in hopes of becoming two-time champs before thousands of cheering spectators. The student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) has been a top finisher four times in the Pumpkin Launch, winning first place in 2013. For this year's competition, the student engineers built a "ballista" launcher, which resembles a medieval crossbow.
