Construction to Start Soon on New University of Louisville’s Academic Building

Construction is set to begin soon on a new four-story academic building on the University of Louisville's main campus. The university said Monday that the 150,000-square-foot building is expected to open for the fall 2018 semester. The $80 million building will primarily serve undergraduate students. It will house 17 classrooms along with science labs, group study areas, gathering spaces and food service.

West Virginia State University to Begin Offering Master’s in Instructional Leadership

West Virginia State University (WVSU) will begin offering a new, online Master of Education in Instructional Leadership degree beginning with the spring 2017 semester. The new program will feature an emphasis on the concepts of social justice, fairness and equity, making it the first of its kind in West Virginia.

Chicago State University Opens Doors To Instruct High School Students During CPS Teachers Strike

In support of Chicago families, Chicago State University will open it’s doors to more than 300 Chicago Public School (CPS) high school students in response to the impending CPS teachers strike scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 11th. The university will provide academic workshops in critical areas like Math, English and Science.

WVSU Extension Service Hosts Fall Gardening Workshop Series

West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service invites you to “fall” into gardening with an Autumn Ag workshop series, taking place at community garden sites throughout Charleston during the month of October. The series will begin with a session on raised bed and container garden production at the Agsten Manor Community Garden on Friday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. All sessions in the series are free and open to the public.

Reuters ranks Indiana University 37th on list of a Universit 37th on list of world’s most innovative universities

Once again, Indiana University ranks among the world’s 50 most innovative universities, climbing 12 spots above last year’s performance in a Reuters News analysis of patent and publishing data from more than 600 research institutions worldwide. The latest findings of The Reuters 100: The World’s Most Innovative Universities, released Wednesday, finds IU ranked 37th worldwide and 25th among U.S. universities. Last year’s study placed IU 49th worldwide and 33rd among U.S. universities. Ten of the Top 100, including IU, are part of the Big Ten Academic Alliance, an academic consortium formerly known as the Committee on Institutional Cooperation.

U of Illinois Plans Vigil after Shootings

The University of Illinois plans a vigil Tuesday to support the victims of two shootings on campus. Four people were injured in the shootings and one man, 22-year-old George Korchev of Mundelein, was killed. Police say the first shooting killed Korchev and injured three people outside a party on campus. None of the four was part of the disagreement or party.

CalArts Faculty Member Maggie Nelson Receives 2016 MacArthur “genius award” Fellowship

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced that author Maggie Nelson is among the 23 MacArthur Fellows for 2016. Chair of the Creative Writing Program in the School of Critical Studies at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), Nelson will receive a “genius award” of $620,000. Nelson received a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
