The follow are two stories from the Associated Press this week regarding Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination for the Supreme Court and allegations of sexual misconduct deeds made against him by three women. Students from Yale University have protested the nomination of Kavanaugh with a sit-in and by traveling to Washington, and students from Liberty University are planning to travel to Washington to support Kavanaugh.

UPenn To Offer Bachelor’s Degree Accessible Online

The University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences’ College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS) has become the first Ivy League school to offer a bachelor’s degree accessible online. Starting in the Fall 2019, Penn LPS Online will offer a new bachelor of applied arts and sciences (BAAS) degree for working adults and nontraditional students.

U Of Nebraska At Kearney Officers Now Carrying Handguns

For the first time in 44 years, University of Nebraska at Kearney campus police officers are carrying handguns. The police chief at the University, Jim Davis, said officer candidates are required to complete basic training, which takes 16 weeks, at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island.

Louisiana University Collects Florence Disaster Supplies

Northwestern State University students are helping residents in North and South Carolina with clean up after Hurricane Florence. Dr. Curt Phifer, a biology professor at the University, is spearheading an effort to collect cleaning supplies and has asked campus groups to put together the supplies into buckets for donation.

US Again Slashing Number Of Refugees It Will Accept

The United States is slashing the number of refugees it will accept from 45,000 to 30,000 for next year. This is the lowest ceiling regarding admitting refugees since the program began back in 1980. Human rights groups criticized the move. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the U.S. is still committed to providing sanctuary to those fleeing from the most dangerous areas in the world.
