Murphy Outlines $50M For Partially Free Community College [Education News]

Gov. Phil Murphy says he wants $50 million of his proposed budget to go toward making community college tuition-free for some families. Murphy outlined his proposal Thursday at Mercer County Community College in greater detail than his budget address last month. The Democratic governor says he wants an additional $5 million to go to the state's 19 community colleges to help deal with the potentially higher enrollments.

Kansas University To Offer Tuition Help To Aspiring Pilots [On A Positive Note In Education]

Kansas State University has partnered with a regional airline to help students who want to be pilots with their tuition and job placement. The university's Polytechnic Campus in Salina has partnered with Piedmont Airlines and its cadet program, The Wichita Eagle reported. Piedmont's cadet program will provide the benefits to select students enrolled at the school's professional pilot program and who have their Certified Flight Instructor rating.

Arizona Supreme Court To Hear Immigrant Tuition Case [Education News]

The Arizona Supreme Court will hear arguments in a case that will decide whether young immigrants granted deferred deportation status under a program started by former President Barack Obama are eligible for lower in-state college tuition. Monday's hearing will consider an effort by the Maricopa County Community Colleges District to overturn a June 2017 state Court of Appeals ruling that found young immigrants in the program aren't eligible.

The Latest: House Passes Budget Boosting Education Spending

The Georgia House has passed a budget for fiscal year 2019 that fully funds the state's K-12 education formula after over a decade of cutbacks. The $26 billion-dollar budget will go to Gov. Nathan Deal's desk, where he is expected to quickly sign it into law. The measure passed the Senate on Tuesday.

Dr. Samir Pancholi of Las Vegas announced the first annual Pancholi Scholarship for Nevada Educators, a $2,000 scholarship developed to help support the next generation of teachers. Teachers hoping to go back to school, high school seniors interested in pursuing a degree in education and current education majors who reside in Nevada are eligible to apply for the $2,000 scholarship.

WNMU Will Not Increase Student Tuition Next Year [Education News]

Western New Mexico University will not increase student tuition next year. The Silver City Sun-News reports Western New Mexico University Board of Regents unanimously approved this week a plan to keep student fees and tuition amounts the same. But the board voted to move ahead with the capital projects transmittal for underground utilities on campus and with the disposal of depreciated computers.
